The Drury Street-based Brooks Hotel in Dublin is scheduled to shut its doors at the end of October for a three-month, €6 million comprehensive renovation. According to its proprietors, the hotel is set to recommence operations toward the end of January 2025.
The MHL Hotel Collection took ownership of the four-star establishment in June 2023, which initially launched in 1996. Presently, the MHL portfolio encompasses 13 hotels, such as the InterContinental in Ballsbridge, the College Green Hotel (previously known as the Westin) close to Trinity College, the Wicklow-based Powerscourt resort, and Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate in Galway.
The chain is under the leadership of American billionaire John Malone alongside Irish entrepreneurs, Paul Higgins and John Lally. Speaking on the hotel’s upcoming transformation, Mr. Lally remarked, “We are delighted to reveal an ambitious renovation plan set to revamp the guest rooms, common areas, and our food and beverage service.”
Relating to visitors who reserved their stay in the 98-room hotel during its temporary shutdown, MHL confirmed they would be “reached out to in the immediate future”. Full-time employees “will directly participate in the refurbishment project management or be given the chance to work at other properties within the MHL Hotel Collection,” the company added.
MHL stakes its claim as the predominant hotel proprietor and operator in Dublin, ranking as Ireland’s second-largest hotel conglomerate. Recent reports confirmed the chain’s acquisition of its inaugural hotel in Belfast, with intentions to inaugurate the property next summer.
