Bridge of Illumination

Dear Editor,

It cannot be denied that Dublin’s emblematic Samuel Beckett Bridge is a sight to behold – particularly during a serene, autumnal evening when its illuminated reflection dances on the Liffey. However, it is disheartening to note the considerable number of unattended broken lights, which often remain in disrepair for extensive durations. One has to wonder whether the same lapse in maintenance would be tolerated for a monumental edifice like the Eiffel Tower – certainly, such neglect would be nationally mortifying for France. Can the same not be said for our city’s defining structures? I appeal to those in charge to uphold the aesthetic allure of our metropolis. Sincerely,

Donal Murphy,
Dublin 1.
