Dear Editor,
Your recent piece on October 22nd craftily painted a vivid picture of the evolving global hierarchy, particularly regarding the international meetings happening around the world. There are Commonwealth leaders congregating in Samoa, and on the other hand, Brazil, India, China, South Africa and the summit host, Russia, are gathering in Kazan for the Brics conference.
The Commonwealth in its current form remains a mere symbolic entity, carrying the vestiges of our colonial past, while Brics is rapidly cementing its position as a global behemoth. It represents 4.1 billion occupants of the emerging Southern regions and claims 35% of the global economy.
It is undeniable that these ascending nations, loosely tethered under the Brics umbrella, are on the precipice of seizing control of global economic, political, and military networks, while the existing dominance of the Western alliance is forecasted to dwindle inversely and respectively.
Such a shift is powered by the emerging world’s populace, who are clamouring for a more equitable distribution of global resources, fostering a new economic world order. The Brics coalition appears to be their chosen conduit to achieve this justice.
It is only hoped that both these factions – the Western and Brics alliances – can find a way to cohabitate in this emerging global landscape, a relationship underscored by mutual respect rather than military power.
Yours sincerely,
