Brazilian Deliveroo Rider Runs for Election

The Deliveroo rider from Brazil who stepped in during the incident on Parnell Street last autumn, Caio Benicio, has declared his intent to run as a Fianna Fáil candidate in the approaching local elections. It was during his delivery rounds in Dublin’s centre that he witnessed and interfered in the attack.

Following the event, he received considerable recognition, and through a website fundraiser, he benefited from several hundred thousand euros. During the Fianna Fáil 1916 Commemoration at Arbour Hill, Benecio confirmed his plan to be a candidate for the Dublin City Council, specifically for the North Inner City region.

Benicio expressed his aspiration to engage more in aiding individuals and concluded that politics is an effective platform for bringing about change. He revealed he had consulted Senator Mary Fitzpatrick and felt a strong alignment with Fianna Fáil’s political perspectives.

Describing Benicio’s value to the community and his understanding of the city’s dynamics, Fitzpatrick noted his background of running a business in Brazil and his commitment towards a bigger community role. She emphasised his reliability as a powerful presence in Dublin City Council.

Benicio views his political aspiration as a way of reciprocating the support he received and insists he doesn’t wish to let down the people who rely on his voice. His prospective focus will be road safety, overall inner city safety, and being a voice for immigrants.
