“Brazilian Deliveroo Rider Runs for Election”

Caio Benicio, a Brazilian Deliveroo rider who stepped in during an assault on Parnell Street last autumn, declared his political ambitions as a Fianna Fáil candidate for the upcoming local elections. While on duty, Mr Benicio intervened in a city centre disturbance in Dublin, earning commendation and a large sum of money through a fundraising website.

At the recent Fianna Fáil 1916 Remembrance event at Arbour Hill, he affirmed his aspiration to serve on the Dublin City Council, representing the North Inner City district. The incident and subsequent recognition spurred him to explore how he could further benefit society – firmly deeming politics as the ideal platform for him to incite change.

Senator Mary Fitzpatrick drew his attention and he perceived Fianna Fáil to align closely with his political ideology. Fitzpatrick highlighted that Benicio, now an East Wall resident, is eager to contribute more significantly to his community. She lauded his perceived respect within his community and school, his understanding of the city dynamics courtesy of his delivery job, his entrepreneurial prowess from having owned his own venture in Brazil, his familial background and his potential of demonstrating robust representation on Dublin City Council.

Using politics as an avenue to reciprocate the outpouring of support, Benicio emphasised his desire to not let people down. By interacting with a diverse range of people, he wants to serve as their representative. His priority will be to represent immigrants, promote road and general public safety, particularly in the inner city.
