Dear Sir,
The term “rename” applied in your recent article, “Trinity’s library to take on Boland’s name”, (News, October 9th), may provoke a moment of reflection for followers of Bishop Berkeley.
Berkeley’s philosophical conundrum, “Does the fall of a tree in a secluded forest create a sound if there is no one present to hear it?”, is quite paralleled here by your account of the library losing its name in 2023. If a library has been stripped of its name and consequently does not possess one, can it truly be given a new name?
