Boris Johnson will give a press conference today at 5pm after a difficult week for England as it reported the highest death rate.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to give a Downing Street press conference today at 5pm after a difficult week for England as it reported the highest death rate.
The Prime Minister will reportedly announce that 2 million people have been vaccinated only last week and will urge people to keep up and remain home. There are growing concerns in Downing Street about the rates remaining high despite the lockdown, possibly because of the new highly contagious covid variant.
Covid infections have fallen across the country although reported deaths have been sky-high, according to a Oxford University research the UK registered 935 daily deaths in a week last week meaning that more than 16 people in every million is dying from coronavirus every day. This week 1,820 deaths were reported, hospitalisations are also at alert level 5, meaning hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed.
A Downing Street source said: “This has been a very bleak week and we need everybody to keep sticking to the rules and helping to protect hospitals, which are under the most tremendous pressure.. We aren’t yet seeing the sharp fall in infections that we had last April and May and we need to keep going.”
Boris Johnson confirmed it is too early to think about lifting covid measures and lockdown could last until the summer, people will have to remain at home in order to see a fall in covid infections.
