“Bohemians Host Shamrock Rovers: FAI Cup”

The Bohemians are set to play host to Shamrock Rovers in the second round of the FAI Cup, marking one of three matches between Premier League teams decided by Thursday’s draw at the National Sports Campus. Bohemians, who were runners-up in the previous year’s competition, beat Shamrock Rovers the last time they faced each other in the second round in 2021, securing a 2-1 win at Dalymount Park with Ali Coote and Andy Lyons scoring.

The draw revealed an exciting derby match to watch out for, pitting Drogheda United against Dundalk in an all-Louth showdown at Weavers Park. Adding to the excitement, the third match involving Premier League teams will bring reigning champions, St Patrick’s Athletic, to the Brandywell stadium to play Derry City.

However, intriguing derbies are not limited to Premier League teams alone as Wilton United will square off against Carrigaline United, two of five Munster Senior League teams from Cork who have advanced to the second round.

Cup players from Donegal-based team, Cockhill Celtic, will clock up a hefty 850km round trip from their Inishowen Football League base to play Premier Division Waterford at the RSC, marking the longest journey of the second round.

The second-round games will be held in the week ending July 21st, 2024. Over in the Women’s FAI Cup first round, Galway United will meet Shelbourne at home. Last year’s winners, Athlone Town, are given a free pass to the quarter-finals.

The upcoming men’s games in the second round will include Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers, Athlone Town v Ringmahon Rangers, Drogheda United v Dundalk, among many others. The games are expected to take place in the week ending July 21st, 2024.

The upcoming football matches are scheduled as follows: DLR Waves will face Whitehall Rangers, Galway United is matched against Shelbourne, Treaty United is going up against Ferns United, Bohemians have to tackle Peamount United, Cork City will measure up against Douglas Hall, Shamrock Rovers have Wexford to contend with and Sligo Rovers are pitted against Terenure Rangers. These exciting fixtures are all set to be fulfilled in the week concluding on the 4th of August, 2024.
