BMW Motorrad and TVS Motors working on a partnership for the Indian Market

Leading the way was the agreement between Hero and MotoCorp Erik Buell Racing, that created a partnership in order to add technical knowledge to the productive efforts of the Indian manufacturer, but now comes the news that a ‘heavy-weight’ of the industry as BMW Motorrad is about to reach the same kind of agreement with TVS Motors, yet another ‘big name’ in the Indian motorcycling industry.

According to the online version of The Wall Street Journal, the Bavarian company aims to create a ’strategic’ relationship with TVS Motor Co.
which will enable them to enter the growingly important indian market in full force.
As for TVS, having the chance to tap the reservoir of technical and productive skills boasted by a manufacturer like BMW is of absolute and vital importance in order to compete with local giants Bajaj and Hero as well as Japanese corporations Honda and Yamaha, which have been operating in that market for quite a while.
The partnership would also enable TVS to develop more powerful bikes faster, a quantum leap that is simply necessary to adapt to the rapidly changing local market.

Although two-thirds of motorcycle sales in India are in the so-called ‘entry level’ segment – meaning vehicles with engine capacity of around 100-125 cc – sales of more powerful motorcycles are definitely on the rise.
“We will share more details about the nature of our talks in due course” said Venu Srinivasan – Indian tycoon and number one at TVS – to the WSJ.
