Bmw M1: already set for production

The English over at CAR seem convinced that the BMW concept with central engine, the M1 Hommage will be produced.
“We have the necessary know-how, the right engines and the appropriate infrastructure to manufacture a car of this type,” Herbert Diess, BMW board member, has said.
In addition, the June edition of the magazine will be dedicated to the M1 Hommage, with an entire exclusive photograph spread and some details about the car.

More precise information on the production schedule and engine range (composed of three units) will be revealed.
The lighter bodywork should also be discussed, as will the wing shaped doors, and why the car can’t be called M1.
There will definitely by a V8 option at 450 hp, most probably derived from the future M3 E92 CSL.
But we could also see the new V8 twin turbo with direct injection and Motorsport.
The second engine should be the new V10 destined for the next generation M5.
We still know very little on the philosophy of this engine, but latest rumours have it as a twin-turbo, direct injection capable of an output of 550 hp.

On the “third choice” speculation is less clear: BMW could choose to aim low with a six-cylinder version, maybe based on the 335i, or to challenge the Stuttgart powers, something more sporty and performance driven with a V10 and power at more than 600 hp.
The prices will be in line with the competition from Audi and, in the future, Mercedes.
