In an error that caused murmurs in the room, American President Joe Biden incorrectly identified President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of Ukraine as “President Putin” during the NATO summit in the US capital, Washington. He went on: “It’s time for Ukraine’s president, a man brave as he is resolute, to take over, ladies and gentlemen,’ and then announced ‘President Putin’. The American president quickly corrected himself and said, “President Zelenskiy, not Putin. My focus is on defeating Putin.” The blunder was notably received with astonishment at the summit.
Lately, President Biden has come under severe criticism for his questionable performance against the former Republican President Donald Trump during a late-month debate that raised eyebrows about his re-election chances, including doubts raised by members of his own Democratic Party.
Following his speech, Biden is scheduled to partake in a press conference later on Thursday evening, which would be his first solo press conference since November. His comments at the summit followed NATO’s pledge of support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion, which had been ongoing since February 2022. The US has remained Ukraine’s key military ally throughout the conflict.
