The American head of state, Joseph Biden, was confirmed to have contracted the Covid-19 virus, as stated by a representative during the annual UnidosUS conference, which was streamed on the White House’s YouTube platform.
Biden was scheduled to address the event in Las Vegas on Wednesday, in an attempt to galvanise votes from the Latin American population for the forthcoming November elections. However, due to being Covid-19 positive, he was unable to attend, as disclosed by Janet Murguia, the President and Chief Executive of UnidosUS.
His earlier itinerary included visiting the Original Lindo Michoacan restaurant in Las Vegas, where he was set to interact with patrons and participate in a discussion with Univision.
The positive test result of Mr Biden was verified by The White House. Moreover, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre assured that the American President had received his vaccine and booster dose, and had been experiencing minor Covid-19 symptoms.
While the President isolates, the White House will be regularly updating on his health status even as he continues to operate his official duties, Jean-Pierre reassured in her media advisory.
In an official communique circulated among media, Biden’s physician stated that while the President had been up to attend the initial part of the day’s proceedings, he started feeling unwell leading to an immediate Covid-19 test which came back positive. Aside from mild symptoms, his vitals like pulse and body temperature were within regular limits. The President is currently taking Paxlovid and will be self-isolating at his residence in Rehoboth.
