“Barristers’ Strike Delays Criminal Court Cases”

The Special Criminal Court is expected to postpone a number of cases that were initially set for the same date as a strike planned by barristers. One such case includes the sentencing hearing for Aaron Brady, who is guilty of murdering a police officer, Adrian Donohoe.

Brady had been set to face his sentencing on the 15th of July after being accused of attempting to obstruct justice during his trial for Adrian Donohoe’s murder. Brady, originally from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, was declared guilty of Adrian Donohoe’s murder in August 2020. The murder took place during a robbery at a Credit Union in Bellurgan, Co Louth, on the 25th of January 2013.

In addition to Brady, numerous young males who face charges linked to Tristan Sherry’s murder at a steakhouse in Dublin were due for the court on the same day. Tristan Sherry was killed on Christmas Eve, 2023, at Browne’s Steakhouse, Main Street, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The four accused are Noah Musueni, Wayne Deegan, David Amah, and Michael Andrecut.

These barristers, embroiled in a payment dispute, have scheduled strikes on the 9th, 15th, and 24th of July. All cases originally planned for the 15th of July have been postponed by Mr Justice Tony Hunt, who presides over the three-judge, non-jury court, until the subsequent day. Earlier this year, Brady admitted to video recording a conversation between a witness at his trial, Ronan Flynn, and An Garda Síochána, with the intention of obstructing justice.

Jonas Kabangu, an 18-year-old from Corduff Park, Blanchardstown, and a minor whose identity cannot be disclosed, are both facing charges of violent disorder at the same location on a specified date. Concurrently, Jaures Kumbu, age 18, residing in Brookhaven Grove, Blanchardstown, stands charged with illegal possession of a submachine gun, in violation of section 27A (1) of the Firearms Act. This occurred on Main Street, Blanchardstown, on the same date. The fatal injury inflicted on Jason Hennessy Senior, who was shot on 24th December last at a restaurant, subsequently resulted in the death of Sherry aged 26.
