The film Barbie, produced by Margot Robbie, was a significant success in Ireland last year, with earnings reaching €9.9 million, establishing it as the leading box office hit of the year. This impressive achievement highlighted a prosperous year for cinemas in Ireland, which saw a 10 per cent income surge, pushing total earnings to €101 million, as outlined by the annual report of the Irish Film Classification Office. In a definitive face-off at the box office, Barbie outperformed Oppenheimer, a multiple Oscar-winning movie featuring Cillian Murphy. The two films launched simultaneously last summer, but Barbie emerged as the clear victor in Ireland, with Oppenheimer accumulating €6.4m, which was 35 per cent lower than its competitor.
