Banksy’s work sold at auction: proceeds go to a children’s hospital in Ukraine
A Banksy work was auctioned in London for the Ukraine. The work sold for 97,000 euros and the proceeds will go to the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in Kiev. The hospital is where the mother who saved her daughter from the bombs by shielding her body was treated. The initial starting bid was 24,000 euros, but was then doubled due to the many expressions of interest.
Many people wanted to offer their money in solidarity with the Ukrainian children’s hospital.
Banksy’s work
The Banksy work sold at auction dates back to 2005 and was entitled CND Soldiers. It shows two soldiers painting the symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament on a wall. It was auctioned off by an anonymous donor, via MyArtBroker.com, who set up the Banksy for Ukraine online page for the sale.
“The winner’s donation will significantly change the lives of staff, children and their families in the coming weeks,” commented Charlotte Stewart, chief executive of MyArtBroker.
