Axa Refunds €65,000 for Bonus Error

Axa Ireland, recognised as the state’s leading motor insurance provider, has compensated hundreds of clients with totals around €65,200 due to a miscalculation error in its no-claims bonus system. Axa, a French Company with approximately 600,000 motor insurance policies, pinpointed what it termed a “historical system-based error” in February, impacting around 400 motor policy owners.

The affected policyholders were reportedly impacted when making amendments to their policies, like vehicle changes or adding an extra driver, resulting in the unintended loss of amassed no-claims bonus advantages due to the systems glitch.

The insurer reached out to each affected customer in March, apologising for the mishap and confirming that compensatory payments and refunds are getting processed, according to an Axa spokesperson. The typical payout, she said, has been €163 per customer. She went on to note that the system’s error has been rectified. The Irish Independent first brought this matter to light on Monday.

“Customer focus remains our priority at Axa and we view such situations with the utmost severity,” she added. “Our dedication is to resolve any problem affecting our customers promptly – we apologise, alleviate the problem and reimburse and compensate the customer as quickly as possible.”
