There is a small town in central Italy (Le Marche) called Arcevia; a place that many of you are unfamiliar with, but the big news is that it will celebrate, until 28th September, the 500th anniversary of an altarpiece painted by Luca Signorelli in 1508.
Signorelli was one of the great artists of the Italian Renaissance, renowned for his great ability to draw and his unique sense of perspective.
He worked primarily in frescoes.
Orvieto Cathedral contains his greatest works; The Preaching of the Anti-Christ and The Last Judgement.
In Arcevia church the artist intriguingly painted this enchanting altarpiece along with another painting called the Baptism of the Saviour.
The Collegiata (a kind of church) of San Medardo also features a beautiful majolica altar by Andrea e Giovanni della Robbia.
By the way, If I were you I would also visit the old walls that surround the town, the Duchess’s Palace and the church of San Francesco.
All places are worth seeing.
