Medicaid is a program that is designed to help people who have a low income. However, having a low income is not the only criteria one has to fulfill in order to be eligible for Medicaid. Every American state has different eligibility requirements and application process for their Medicaid program.
Income from Social Security
People who already receive a supplemental security income are likely to qualify for Medicaid. However, the best way for people to find out if they are eligible is to contact their local Department of Social Services and ask about the eligibility requirements of the Medicaid program in their state.
How to apply for medicaid
While every state does have a a different applicant process there are certain actions that applicants will need to complete regardless of what state they live in.
Get in touch with the Department of Social Services
The first thing that applicants need to do is contact their state Department of Social Services. If the applicant qualifies for the program, they will need to go to the office of the Department of Social Services. There, the applicant will have to fill out a form. Applicants need to know that the Department of Social Services may go by a different name in their state. If this is the case, applicants can contact their county building and ask who to contact.
Personal information and certificates required
Applicants will need to take their pay slip, birth certificate, drivers license, social security number, bank statements and proof of address when they go to the office to fill out an application form. Those that have health insurance will need to provide proof of insurance.
Processing of the application
Once the application has been completed and the applicant has provided copies of the above documents to the Department of Social Services. Applicants will have to wait for their application to be processed. It is important that applicants are prepared to discuss their income as eligibility for this service is largely based on how much the applicant earns from their job.
