A fatal incident transpired in Ballymahon, County Longford, which resulted in the death of a man in his 60s. The episode unfolded on Thursday, during work on a secluded part of Athlone Road. The tragedy was precipitated when the man was hit by a work vehicle. Police and emergency services were summoned post-accident. His death was declared on-site and his remains have been transferred to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar where an autopsy will be conducted. The authorities have cordoned off the area for investigation whilst also informing the local coroner and the Health and Safety Authority. The road has subsequently been made accessible again and inquiries by the police continue.
