An explanation of the campaigns for the referendum, affirming and negating

This coming Friday, 8th of March, sees Irish nationals heading to the polls to cast their votes in two public consultations. The exchanging of views over the past few weeks around these referendums, which originally aimed to modernise the constitution to better suit the wider variety of Irish families, and eliminate outdated depictions of women’s roles at home, has left many voters more perplexed than they were at the commencement of the campaign.

The discussions surrounding the “family” and “care” articles, and what the public needs to make a decision on, are at the heart of this. The chatter from both the advocates and opponents of each referendum has also become a focal point. Are we hearing facts or are we being flooded with distortions or slanted information?

Today’s episode of In the News delves into this issue; journalist Jennifer Bray defines what subjects Irish citizens will be casting their votes on this Friday, 8th of March, along with the possible repercussions of voting Yes or No in these imminent public consultations. The episode is hosted by Sorcha Pollak and produced by Aideen Finnegan.
