Dear Sir, – I would be fascinated to gain insight on Una Mullally’s perspective on what aspects of Sinn Féin’s policies convince her of their left-wing political stance. She even suggests that they might potentially lead a left-wing government (“A cohesive assertion from the left is overdue”, Opinion & Analysis, June 17th). To my observation, their propositions indicate an intent to govern the country more effectively, while addressing certain societal matters, which is reminiscent of the old Fianna Fáil approach. Also, it is notable that her ideal coalition comprises the Social Democrats and Labour aligned with Sinn Féin, yet there is an noticeable omission of the unequivocally left-wing groups, People Before Profit/Solidarity or the Green party. – Yours sincerely,
DAVID McKENNA.
