A piece in the Business section of irishtimes.com titled “Coillte commits to planting native tree species only from 2025 on” mistakenly reported incorrect policy related to Coillte and was published inaccurately.
The national forestry company has not pledged to exclusively plant indigenous tree species, contrary to what the article stated. Likewise, erroneous statements were attributed to a Coillte executive within the article.
The accurate stance of Coillte is its ambition to facilitate the establishment of 100,000 hectares of fresh forests by the year 2050, with native woodlands making up half of this.
Coillte aspires to strike a balance and yield numerous benefits from its forests for various purposes – climate, nature, wood and people. The company looks to enhance its focus on climate action by establishing ambitious new targets on biodiversity and recreation, all while maintaining its contribution to the forest and wood product industry.
