Allergies are a reaction in the immune system to a number of allergens such as pet dander, shellfish, dust, plants, peanuts; the possibilities are almost endless. How you react to an allergen depends on your own body based on heredity, living conditions and a number of reasons that can range widely.

How you choose to treat your allergies can be accomplished by a number of means. With basic allergies to pet hair, plants and dust some people opt to get allergy shots from an allergist. These shots don’t work for everyone but for some, they are a lifesaver. The allergist will take a test that lets him know what you are allergic to and create a vaccine that combats these allergies by using the allergens themselves. While this is one of the effective ways to help with common allergies it can be expensive. Therefore, some people opt to simply use over the counter medications.

For more serious allergies such as an allergy to nuts, this can lead to serious complications so a person will have to stay away from any products with nuts in them. For those, partaking of nut products can lead to respiratory problems and even death. For those that are allergic to bee stings, epinephrine shots much be considered as a tool that could save their life.

No matter how small your allergy symptoms are, they are a nuisance that can most likely be lessened with the proper care and medicine.
