After parting ways with Toni Elias, Aspar Martinez is doing more house cleaning and has dropped Alberto Moncayo (2009 CEV 125 champion and 2010 125cc Rookie of the Year and the only rider in Aspar’s Moto3 team to have picked up a podium so far this year) from his Moto3 line-up and is replacing him with Jonas Folger, starting at the upcoming Indianapolis GP.
Moncayo had only 36 points after the Mugello GP (now, ex team mate Hector Faubel has 44) and one second place podium at LeMans, while the the German youngster who has been riding on a TR003 prepared by Ioda Racing this season, has already picked up six DNFs in nine races.
“I am delighted to be signing for the Mapfre Aspar Team.
It is probably the most experienced team in the paddock and I know how professional they all are.
I am highly motivated and will work as hard as necessary to make the most of this opportunity.
My objective is to squeeze every bit of potential out of the Kalex, which is a very reliable bike in terms of the chassis and the KTM engine.
It is a fast bike and it looks quite easy to ride so I am very much looking forward to riding it, meeting the team and getting down to work,” said Folger.
