“Affordable Rosés for Summer Enjoyment”

This week, we feature two rosé wines from vintners chiefly recognised for their robust red wines, but these rosés offer excellent value. Both form a part of O’Briens’ yearly summer rosé sale. Aside from these two, the Gaia 4-6 Rosé (£11.85) is also worth looking out for.

The esteemed Cazes family, owners of Château Lynch-Bages among other high-end Bordeaux properties, are the proprietors of Domaine de l’Ostal, located in the Minervois sector of Languedoc-Roussillon.

Although I’m not usually a great enthusiast of red wines derived from pinotage, I annually appreciate the rosé from Delheim. The Sperling family, based in South Africa’s Stellenbosch region, cultivate an assortment of fine wines, including a delightful Chenin Blanc and a number of superior Chardonnays.

Worth noting is the Delheim Pinotage Rosé 2023 from Stellenbosch, a tempting, fresh wine bursting with raspberry and cranberry flavours. Priced £10.07, down from £13.42, it makes a perfect accompaniment to a poolside view or a barbeque.

Also on offer is the elegant, dry Domaine de L’Ostal Rosé 2023, IGP pays d’Oc. This rosé carries abundant ripe redcurrant and red cherry notes. Just like the Delheim, it’s lowered to £10.07 from £13.42, and it’s excellent either enjoyed alone or paired with meze or antipasti.
