During her ongoing summer performance at the Munich Messe venue, Adele received quite a surprise on Friday. The 36-year-old British pop star called a fan on stage, expecting to meet a typical admirer, but instead, she was introduced to Paula, a wildly enthusiastic fan from Ireland. Draped in a white, sequined ensemble, the exuberant Irish woman was visibly thrilled to meet her idol, hanging onto Adele in a joyful hug that didn’t seem to end.
“You’re the wildest fan I’ve ever brought on stage,” Adele announced. “Tell me your name. You sound British.”
Overjoyed and light-hearted, Paula clarified, “Actually, I’m Irish…I’m here with my spouse, Frank.”
Adele, reveling in the humour of the situation, responded, “So you’re Frank from Ireland and I’ve got your extraordinary wife Paula up here with me.”
Paula’s ecstatic reaction, vividly displayed on a colossal 220m by 30m screen, was nothing short of infectiously joyous. After a comedic moment with an ill-fitting pair of sunglasses, Paula returned her attention to Adele in an attempt to make the moment unforgettable. Following a memorable photo session, Adele gifted Paula a bag of merchandise before sending her back to her seat in the audience.
Recovering composure from the whirlwind that was ‘Paula’, Adele inquired of her audience, “Did I get any of Paula’s red lipstick on my cheek?”
The chorus of affirmative responses from the 80,000-strong crowd summoned Adele’s stylist to the stage to efficiently eliminate the remaining marks of the Irishwoman.
“I’m not fond of red lipstick,” Adele confessed.
However, the show had to continue, and Paula regained the limelight when she made a feature in the German tabloid, Bild.
Bettina von Schimmelmann, a concert reporter, commented on the event, “The audience was ecstatic,” and added, “whereas Adele seemed a bit jittery.”
