Republic of Ireland forward Adam Idah’s injury status is expected to be revealed following a diagnosis due on Tuesday. Idah was injured during Celtic’s 3-0 victory over Motherwell last Sunday, with an issue to his ankle after a serious tackle from Liam Gordon, who was consequently removed from the game.
Ahead of the forthcoming Scottish Premiership game against Dundee, Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers expressed concern over Idah’s condition while indicating that it was a severe tackle. However, Rodgers did give a hint of optimism, noting that recent signs of increased mobility are encouraging. He also mentioned that the outcome of the scan is eagerly awaited but he criticised Gordon’s tackle.
Stuart Kettlewell, Motherwell’s manager, deemed the VAR-influenced decision to send off Gordon as “strict”. However, there has been no appeal against the decision. Rodgers offered the suggestion that Kettlewell may reconsider his views upon further examination of the discontinuation incidence.
Rodgers highlighted the pressures faced by managers post-match which may cause them to miss the incident’s severity. He stated that on rewatching the incident, he believes Kettlewell might recognise its seriousness despite the player not intentionally intending to hurt. Despite defending his player, Rodgers emphasised the unacceptable nature of the challenge.
Rodgers expressed hope for Idah’s recovery. He confidently claimed that upon reviewing the incident, the decision to send off Gordon would be unanimously agreed upon. He conveyed the team’s anticipation for Idah’s return to fitness.
Callum McGregor was unable to participate in the victory at Fir Park due to a hip injury, and it appears he may be ready to play in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final versus Aberdeen this Saturday. “We’re evaluating his condition after the training he undertook,” stated Rodgers, adding that “If he’s not up to scratch by then, he will certainly be fit for the weekend game.”
