Accidental Cork House Fire Fatality

Authorities in Cork have confirmed the accidental nature of a house fire which tragically led to the death of a 71-year-old male resident. The incident occurred at a bungalow on Grange Road near Douglas in the south of Cork city.

The deceased, who lived by himself, was declared dead at the site of the blaze. The Cork City Fire Brigade arrived at the scene around 10.30am on Wednesday, responding to a distress call. Three units managed the scene, which was heavily obscured by smoke.

It is thought that the fire had been smouldering for a significant period before emergency services were alerted due to the thick smoke that filled the room upon their arrival.

Attending firefighters, equipped with breathing aids, entered the bungalow and discovered the deceased individual. His remains have been taken to Cork University Hospital for an autopsy, which officials hope will provide further information about his cause of death.

Following thorough investigation, the police technical team has confirmed that there was no indication of criminal behaviour and that the fire was indeed accidental. A police spokesperson noted that the coroner has been informed about the death and preparations are underway for an inquest to be held in the coroner’s court.
