A sextet faced charges over a murder in a Kerry cemetery

In a development related to a murder that occurred 18 months ago in Co Kerry during a funeral, a sixth man has been arrested and charged. The man, aged 43, was apprehended in the Wilton region of Cork City early this morning and is scheduled to appear before Listowel District Court’s special sitting, to be accused for the murder of Tom Dooley.

As reported by Gardaí, the suspect is presently in custody at a Garda station, located in Co Kerry, under the rules of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. This law permits the detention of suspects for a maximum duration of 24 hours. His court appearance is set for 10:30am.

Five other men were previously accused of murdering Tom Dooley, a resident of Hazelwood Drive in Killarney, who was a victim of grievous injuries inflicted by a group of men during a funeral at Rath Cemetery, Rathass, Tralee on 5th October 2022.

Mr Dooley, who was a father to seven children, had accompanied his wife, Siobhán, and four of their youngest children to the funeral of a friend, Bridget O’Brien from St Michael’s Road in Killarney and Rathass, Tralee, who passed away on 2nd October 2022. During the funeral, Mr Dooley was fatally attacked.

The late Mr. Dooley, eulogized as a devoted husband to his wife, Siobhán, and a caring father to their three sons and four daughters by Fr Joe Gallagher, was laid to rest alongside his wife’s family in the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore, Co Offaly.
