Dear Editor,
I recently read an article titled “Almost half of honey in Irish shops likely sourced from countries not identified on labels” (Conor Pope, News, 9th of October) and as a daily consumer of honey, I must say, it’s given me quite a shock.
The upcoming EU-wide labelling regulations meant to take effect prior to mid-2026 are something I’m looking forward to. I believe these regulations are a step in the right direction to ensure transparency.
While we’re on the matter of new rules, the term “handmade” applied to crisps is another area I’d suggest for review. It’s rather laughable to think that these crisps are manually processed by the factory staff, with human hands peeling and slicing the potatoes, laying them in an oven tray, and individually filling each packet.
The only involvement of human hands, as far as I understand, is merely triggering the start and stop of the production line.
Yours sincerely,
DOMINIC LEE,
Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
