A miracle on Saint Patrick’s Day

Gentleman, – It seems high time we debunk this annually recurrent assertion proclaiming half a million citizens would participate in the St Patrick’s Day parade (News, 22nd of February).

Some quick arithmetic shows that based on two individuals per metre, flanking both sides of the designated parade way of 2.5 kilometres, the throng would have to be 50 people thick everywhere.

Recollecting St Patrick driving out all the serpents from Ireland seems far more plausible compared to these statistics. – Yours Sincerely,

BARRY KELLY,
Dublin 6.
