A tragic accident took place in Dunlewey, Co Donegal, where a gentleman in his fifth decade of life unfortunately lost his life after slipping while on a hike. The incident, which resulted in fatal injuries, happened at Cró Nimhe, a valley near Dunlewey, and unfolded around 1pm on Saturday.
Following the distressing incident, both law enforcement and rescue services quickly arrived on the scene to assist two hikers, one of whom sadly passed. The man who lost his life was retrieved from the mountain and taken to the University Hospital Letterkenny’s mortuary. As per the Gardaí, the incident is being categorised as a heartbreaking mishap.
The second hiker, another man approaching his 60s, was also injured during the event and was consequently airlifted from the valley to Letterkenny Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are reported to be of non-fatal nature.
The local coroner has been notified about the incident and is making arrangements for an autopsy, stated a spokesperson for the Gardaí.
