Tragically, a man in his 20s succumbed to his injuries after a single-car accident in Meath County on Sunday evening. Emergency services, including the Gardaí, were dispatched promptly to the accident site on the R161 Trim to Navan Road at Philpotstown, near 10pm.
The young man, the only occupant of the vehicle, received medical attention at the scene before being transported to the Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda; however, he was unable to survive his injuries. This incident raises the number of fatalities on the Irish roadways to five since Saturday.
Later on Sunday afternoon, a three-vehicle collision in Meath County claimed the lives of two men in their 30s. In another incident in Kilkenny County, a teenager riding an e-scooter was killed in a crash. The victim was identified locally as Joe Carthy from Kilkenny city.
Separately, a man in his 40s passed away after a single-vehicle crash that occurred just after 1.30am Saturday at Ballynamona in Kinsale, Co Cork. He was known locally as Finbarr Coleman.
The accident scene in Meath County was secured and traffic rerouted to allow the Garda Forensic Collision investigators to gather evidence. The local medical examiner has been informed and will conduct a postmortem.
The Gardaí are urging any witnesses of the collision to come forward and provide any relevant information. They also request those who traveled on the R161 route between Navan and Trim from 9.30pm to 10pm on Sunday, particularly those possessing camera footage, to share it with the authorities.
