A man in his early 20s, hailing from east Cork, tragically lost his life early Thursday morning in a two-vehicle accident on the N25 Cork Waterford Road near Midleton. Authorities urge those who witnessed the accident, or have dashcam footage, to reach out and assist in their investigations. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after his car collided with a lorry near Ballyedekin, between Midleton and Castlemartyr around 7.30am. It is suggested that both vehicles were heading the same direction at the time of the incident, and the lorry driver remained uninjured.
Emergency services arrived on the scene and have since closed the road and instituted diversions to let forensic crash investigators examine the site. The public can contact Midleton Garda station on 021 462 1550 with any information. This incident follows another fatal accident within a week in the Midleton area, where a pedestrian was killed on the N25 during the early morning hours of Sunday.
A 47-year-old man, John Barry, from Bridevalley View in Fairhill, Cork City, who was a father of three, was fatally struck by a car at Waterrock between Midleton and Carrigtwohill at 1.30am. Barry had been to a wedding at the Midleton Park Hotel just hours before his untimely death and was walking along the westbound carriageway when the accident happened.
