A biker succumbs to his injuries in a collision in Northern Cork

A man in his sixties, who was riding a motorcycle, tragically lost his life in a collision in north Cork during the past weekend. The gentleman was journeying along the R579 from Cork in the direction of Kanturk when the mishap took place close to Banteer, specifically at Glen South, around 6.45pm on Sunday. Emergency services arrived post-haste, and it is known that the unfortunate man was declared deceased at the site of the accident before his body was moved to Cork University Hospital for an autopsy.

Planting barriers, the Gardaí have sealed off a stretch of the roadway between Nadd and Banteer, situated south of Banteer, to enable a detailed investigation of the accident scene. A call to action has been issued by the Gardaí asking any onlookers of the event to share their information at the Mallow Garda station, dial 022 31450, or glean confidential advice through the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or simply approach any Garda station.

They are particularly interested in those road users who may have video evidence (comprising dashcam footage), who were venturing between Banteer and Nadd from 6pm to 7.30pm on Sunday, to share it with the Gardaí. The recent tragic event takes the toll to 64 for those who have lost their lives on Irish highways this year, and it’s the eighth such incident of fatality on the roads in Co Cork in the current year.
