A young individual, Ryan McCrabbe, was presented in court following a string of attacks on structures in Co Donegal. This happened at a unique session of Letterkenny District Court this evening. This comes after several alleged arson onslaughts on structures in St Johnston, a village in east Donegal, on Wednesday evening. The 27-years-old is accused of wreaking havoc on the Royal Orange Hall on Main Street in the village by fire on the 29th of August.
Also, that same day, he was charged with setting fire to St Baithins Church in St Johnston. In addition, he faces charges for an attack against St Johnston Masonic Hall on Church Lane in the same village. Garda Sgt Maurice Doyle revealed to the court that bail would be objected. Though, Mr Patsy Gallagher, the accused’s solicitor, stated he was deferring a bail application for the time being.
Mr Gallagher revealed his client, a resident of McCann’s Corner, St Johnston, is currently undergoing dialysis at Letterkenny University Hospital and consequently needs treatment for his persistent condition. Mr Gallagher stressed his concern about his client’s health. He requested the court to ensure his client is psychologically or psychiatrically evaluated as quickly as possible. He clarified that his client comprehends the charges and has given him instructions. The solicitor expressed his thoughts, which were welcomed by Judge Ciaran Liddy, who agreed to all treatment requests. The case has been delayed until September 3rd, and the next update will be via videolink at Letterkenny District Court.
