2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS New York Auto Show Launch: image gallery, specs

Chevrolet is using the 2013 New York Auto Show to unveil two new Camaro models.
The most insane has to be the Z/28 with its lightweight body and 500 hp 7.
0 litre LS7 V-8 engine, so it would be easy to overlook the SS.
Both cars have the same hardcore look set off by the air vent in the bonnet and angular lines, but the SS has a cleaner look as the flared wheel arches and the front splitter seen on the Z/28 aren’t part of the SS look.

This is the first reworking of the fifth generation Camaro and it brings a sharper look, new headlights, a reworked bumper and the airvent on the hood that’s bound to become a hallmark of the car.
Tom Peters, the car’s design director told journalists in New York during the auto show’s press days that “The 2014 Camaro is our opportunity to apply what we have learned listening to our customers, and our continuing development of high-performance models.
We look for solutions that are both functional and beautiful so that the result is genuine Chevrolet – simple, powerful, honest, and more than expected.

”Chevy has been using the SS brand to distinguish its fastest cars since the first Super Sports pack was introduced for the 1961 Impala.
Since 1994, the SS nameplate has been added to a variety of General motors vehicles including pickup trucks, saloons and even front wheel drive cars.
The new Chevrolet SS, which is based on the Holden VF Commodore, uses the name, but we think it’s best suited to muscle cars like the Camaro.
Under the bonnet of the SS there’s a 6.
2-litre V-8 that produces 426 hp.
At launch there will be coupe and convertible models, and owners will be able to opt for the 1LE handling pack if they’d like to take the muscle car onto a race track.
