2011 Provisional World Superbike and Supersport entry lists

The FIM has been very busy today, because they’ve not only released the Grand Prix 2011 entry lists, they’ve also released the World Superbike and Supersport lists.
Giving it the once over, World Superbikes has just 20 riders with one still to be announced for Pedercini.
So as the Italians would say ’se Atene piange, Sparta non ride’ (more or less if Athens is crying, Sparta isn’t laughing, Athens in this case being MotoGP) the Superbike grid, despite seven manufacturers and being less expensive series to race in, getting 33% more audience, isn’t exactly flourishing.

After the Ducati factory team pullout, Alstare Suzuki down to one rider as the Althea Ducati team, we’ll still be seeing the debut of the BMW Italia team with James Toseland and Ayrton Badovini and Liberty Racing and five (!) Kawasaki Ninjas.
Max Biaggi won’t be running the #1 plate and is keeping his trademark #3 and believe me this will sorely disappoint his fans who’ve waited more than a decade to see their favourite rider run again with that number.
The World Supersport grid thankfully, is much more abundant with 29 riders ready to battle it out.

The entry list also reveals what hasn’t been officially announced yet that BE1 Racing will in fact be on Yamaha machinery, dropping the Triumph Daytona’s.
We’ll also be seeing former 250cc Hungarian riders Imre Toth and Balzas Nemeth on Honda’s for the Toth team, which will hopefully have enough money to see the season through and not have the big financial problems they did in 2009.
