The 82nd edition of the Mille Miglia commences today, running until May 17th, with a five-day program that promises plenty of excitement.
The elegant event brings back the days of when the “signori” would travel with their full outfit of driving kit.
The Mille Miglia event starts from Brescia with the opening of the sponsors village in Piazza della Loggia, while the race commences the following day, heading for Ferrara where the first vehicles will arrive about midnight.
The day after is a long day, starting at 7:45 am to make for Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, with arrival expected about 8:30 pm.
On Saturday 16th the longest day occurs from Rome back to Brescia starting at 6:30 am, that should finish at about 2am on the Sunday, though the first vehicles are expected to arrive at about 10:30 pm.
Enzo Ferrari described the Mille Miglia as the “Most beautiful road race in the world”, and the new organisers are certainly looking to create something unforgettable.
Doing 1000 miles is still an iconic experience that draws on a tradition the 6,000 participants are keen to be involved in.
It promises to be a spectacle.
